Breaking the Silence

how many times will they repeat the word “Standard”
before I break
how many times will they spew their asinine educational jargon
before I bust out
I'm ready
Standards are so confining
like bars
liike jail
a place to silence our voices, to silence our passions
a place to blow out our flames
is this what school should be?
I refuse to be part of a system
that wants to put children
behind bars
I just
refuse.
